Traveling from Darjeeling to Gangtok starting right from the nearest railway station or the airport ( New Jalpaiguri) and Bagdogra airport, you will get a strange feeling of changing into different worlds. Not only the topography, altitude, and climate but you will also see different faces, languages, culture, and lifestyles.

This travel plan of the true locals of the offbeat destinations from Darjeeling to Gangtok. It will be an opportunity for the meaningful travelers to explore the depth of the rural beauty and the pure natural blessings of such offbeat destinations.

There are two ways to explore the trip from Darjeeling to Gangtok. Either you can check in from Darjeeling and checkout from Gangtok, or the other way round. This travel plan will take you to the offbeat destinations of Darjeeling and Sikkim. The accommodation will be arranged mostly in the homestays of Darjeeling and Sikkim.


Day 1

Reach Darjeeling

Pick up from NJP/ airport and drive to Darjeeling via Rohini, Kurseong, and reach Darjeeling town. We will arrange a homestay near Darjeeling town from where you can go for Darjeeling town sightseeing. After reaching the homestay spend your time with the family and then in the evening go for a town visit to mall road ( Chowrasta)...and also do some window shopping. Night at the homestay.

Day 2

Darjeeling sightseeing

Early morning go for Tiger hill sunrise( will be a bit tough if you are a late sleeper)...and after that go for Batasia loop to watch the toy train taking its famous turn in the loop. Again go to nightingale park and enjoy the mesmerizing view of Kanchenjunga (if you link enough to get a clear sunny day). Then visit the zoo. You may have seen many zoos of India, but this zoo rears so of the most endangered species of wildlife animals like the red panda, snow leopard, black panther ( Bagheera from Mowgli) , the Himalayan black bear, the pheasant birds, Royal Bengal tiger. Again later go to visit Japanese temple....night stay at a homestay.

Day 3

Drive from Darjeeling to Gangtok.

Checkout from Darjeeling homestay and drive towards Gangtok....on the way visit few places like Lamahatta park, Peshok tea garden, and also watch the confluence point of Teesta and Rangeet..on the way you can do river rafting in Teesta. And then reach Gangtok.... After reaching Gangtok...spend your evening strolling at MG road.

Day 4

Tsongo Lake excursion from Gangtok

After breakfast, start for an excursion to Tsomgou Lake - situated at a height of 12400Ft / 3780 Mts / 43Kms in 3Hrs one way, with an average depth of 50 ft. The cool water of the Lake is perfectly attuned with the scenic beauty around & Visit Baba Mandir. (In case of Landslide or due to any other reasons if Tshangu Lake is closed then an alternate sightseeing will be provided). On the way have your lunch. Overnight in Gangtok. Nathula Pass is an Indo China border & is situated approx 20 kms above Tshangu Lake. Supplement cost for Nathula Pass visit will be INR 3500.00 extra which includes the permit charges also. Nathula permit will confirm 24 hrs prior to the journey date & it is subjected to permit availability by lottery. Incase permit is Not confirmed by Sikkim tourism & due to any reason (Land slide, Heavy rain fall, VIP Movement etc) you unable to visit Nathula pass then there is no refund of the Nathula amount. Nathula pass is closed on Monday & Tuesday for the tourist.

Day 5

Visiting North Sikkim from Gangtok

After breakfast check out from hotel and transfer to Lachen (9500 Ft / 2896 Mts / 130 Kms / 06 to 07 Hrs). On the way visit Singhik viewpoint, Tashi viewpoint, Seven sister’s waterfall (Subjected the vehicle take the normal route). The snow-capped peaks, Gurudongmar Lake, Chopta Valley, Thangu are the major attraction – It’s a valley surrounded by gigantic and humbling snow peak mountains and the starting point of Green Lake Trek – In fact the village cradled between stern, tall rock faces standing like guards – A hamlet with very few people – It almost like this town is hidden from the outside – Like a Shangri - La – Check into a hotel - Welcome Tea – Evening free to stroll and visit the Lepcha Village – Overnight stay at Hotel in Lachen

Day 6

Lachen and Lachung tour

Early breakfast proceed to visit Gurudongmar Lake via Chopta valley & Thangu which is considered as one of the 2nd highest lakes in World & it will take approx 3-4 hour’s drive from Lachen (One way) - A valley at an altitude of 17,100 feet through which Lachen Chu flows, generally covered with snow from December to April or even more is known as the Holy / Sacred Lake . Afternoon back to hotel have your lunch check out & transfer to Lachung (8000 Ft / 2439 Mts, 60 km/ 03 to 04 Hrs). Evening at your own leisure. Overnight at Lachung

Day 7

Yumthang valley Tour in North Sikkim

Early morning proceed to visit Yumthang Valley (11800 Ft / 3598 Mts / 25 Kms / 01 ½ Hrs one way). Also known as Valley of Flowers), Yumthang is the summer grazing ground of the yaks & winter playgrounds of yetis. On the way back visit the Hot Spring considered to have medicinal properties. Drive back to Gangtok this day and stay at Gangtok homestay.

Day 8

Do Gangtok city tour.

Do full day Gangtok sightseeing go for the city tour, Rumtek Monastery, Botanical Garden, Do Drul Chorten Stupa, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (closed on Sundays), Cottage Industry (closed on Sundays) , Flower Show, & Ropeway( Ropeway ticket is not included). Evening at your own leisure. Overnight Gangtok homestay

Day 9

Return to Bagdogra with happy memories.

Checkout and get a drop to NJP and Bagdogra with sweet memories.
